How it Began

Over the years, I've slowly been developing my creative side. Even when following a traditional pattern, I've started adding more of my own design aspects. I want to keep devoloping my style and hope to share tips with you along the way. When I'm not creating, I can be found reading, running/hiking, or hanging out with family and friends with a cup of strong coffee (my brother says I make coffee using coffee instead of water) or an IPA, depending on the time of day!
I started traditional quilting over twenty years ago. I have always loved to add a personal flare to traditional quilts. If I'm honest, most of the time my personal flare covers mistakes, a lesson I learned from my mom (Gloria)! She used an earring to cover her imperfect points in the sweet snowman piece pictured on the right. We stumbled upon a quilt show (it just happened to be in our hotel) in Omaha one summer on a baseball trip and both bought snowman patterns. Watching my youngest play ball plus quilts is a win-win!

Branching Out
More Branching |
I started combining less traditional aspects to my quilts - a lot more 3-D leaves (oh, how I love leaves!) - as well as beading, original designs, etc. (See slideshow below.)

Collage Quilts

Spring 2020 I started creating collage quilts, incorporating new medium to my quilts. I tried some stenciling and decided I was happier painting freehand designs. I added stamps using found objects. I dusted off my hand embroidery skills, wishing my mom could offer advice, but instead relying on virtual teachers. I've even added trash to my collage quilts. Nothing like a pandemic-stay at home-furlough time to get the creative juices flowing.
After attending a couple of Black Lives Matter protests, I was inspired to create. "No Justice, No Peace." I was honored when my piece was accepted into a juried exhibition by the amazing Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi for We Are the Story's exhibition Racism : In the Face of Hate, We Resist.
